What is an Welcome to Country?
In a simple sentence:
It is a protocol for the custodians of the land to welcome visitors to their Country or Land.
What is an Acknowledgement to Country?
In plain terms this is an opportunity for anyone to show respect for Traditional
Owners and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to
Country. It can be given by both non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people.
There are no strict protocols or wording for an Acknowledgement of Country, so it is okay you can relax about what to say and say something from the heart!
